No snow here, just sleet, rain and now ice. That’s a miserable combination because you can’t do anything outside and can’t go anywhere. The guessers are saying maybe 2″ of snow tonight.

I can’t do any kins of berry. The birds and squirrels get them just before they ripen. I’ve been trapping the squirrels and dropping them in an orchard 20 miles away. They keep stealing the apples.

Yup, beautiful while it’s coming down, but then please melt away. They say 2 inches of rain tonight. The ground is rock solid, frozen to about 4″. There won’t be any ground drainage, so I’m expecting major runoff and flooding. That’s unfortunate since we are still deemed high fire hazard due to the fall drought. After 10 days of sub 30 F, 4 days being no higher than 16F, I think we’ve broken out for good. The last 2 have 20’s overnight but 40 during the day. Tomorrow those guessers say 50F, then 5 days of 40+. I hope so, I feel like Frosty, frozen but thawing out. Been freezing my butt off. 3 straight days the temp didn’t breach 20F. Morning below 10. Things are looking better, +32 today possibly mid 50’s by Wednesday.

So it rained for about an hour before it turned to snow. We saw a mere inch and half but after it stopped the temp dropped and froze the wetness against the ground. It was pretty slick this AM. Those guessers are saying 6-12″ of snow this afternoon before the temp drops below 30. I’m guessing 1-2 inches but still the coldest week of the year. Gks want me to come north to go sledding. I may do just that.

DC had it far worse than us. We had only 2″ though it was enough to cause me to blow the dust off the shovel. It’s the first snowfall more than a dusting in 3 years. I wanted to get back into working outside, but this wasn’t what I had in mind.

My wife tells friends I never retired, just changed careers to a tradesman. Matter of fact I went from working 5 days a week to 6 and 7. All that is finally winding down. Hit 62 today. A storm glided up from the south and brought some warm air with the rain. Back to mid 30’s tomorrow but it sure felt nice.

Nj hasn’t been anywhere near as bad as NYC. At least NJ revised the juvie code but its still not as tough as it was 6 years ago.
