Popped 84 yesterday. 65 this AM. No. 1 son and his wife are splitting out for an anniversary weekend so we’ve got the 3 kiddies for the next 3 days. Dropping them off here for 2 days then we’ll driver then back north Sunday afternoon. Fall sports are over Winter sports have begun. It’s their first weekend off since mid August.

My son has 2 60′ firs in his front yard. You can’t see his driveway and garage roof because the needle drop is so thick. He normally rakes them up and lights them up in his firepit, but we’re so dry out here the state put up a ban on all outdoor fires.

My garden is only 8 x 4 so I skipped the jalapenos this year. My wife only eats grilled jalapeno poppers stuffed with assorted cheeses. I scrape out the seeds to make them edible for her. When I grow them, they go from plant to grill in a couple minutes.

In the midst of a 5 day Indian Summer, mid 70’s since Saturday and low 80s on Monday.

I’m surprised anything grows in the garden. I fenced off the vegetable garden. We’ve tried every deer resistant plant out there and they still eat the flower buds.

The comet is quite low in the sky. We get only about 15 minutes to view it before is sets behind the tree lined horizon. It’s due west on the compass if you can get to a point to see the horizon. It is visible soon after sundown and initially appears as the only star in the western sky. We never got to see Halley’s because of storms and clouds.

Wifey is doing okay. They couldn’t bust them due to an infection. That’s scheduled 2 weeks out. Until then she has to live with a stent.

Wifey went to stay with the daughter on Monday while the son in law was on a business trip. Monday afternoon she comes down with a bout of kidney stones. She’s got a spongy kidney and this her 5th bout with them. Doc sends her for lab tests and cat scan. Hah, when we had our house with fireplace, an ember popped out and burned the floor. Before wifey got home I went and bought a carpet. Wifey loved it, “I always wanted a carpet in that room.” She never saw it and never asked why I decided to get it. From then on, I closed the screen in front.

Was that tree fresh cut or a widow maker? Fresh wood is not easily split. This place has a gas fireplace. I’ve thought about removing the burner. but stories like yours make drop the idea quickly. I prefer wood as it has greater heat output. The one we have is purely aesthetics and sucks more heat out than it creates.

My buddy outside Atlanta had almost 30″ of rain over 2 days. Fortunately, he’s on high ground. The low ground around him was flooded for 2 more before he could get to a grocery store. Even then, the shelves were sparce. No dairy, deli, seafood or meat since the employees couldn’t get in.

Back home, the grass has already started to green up.

Finally broke the drought with 2″ of rain over 2 days.
