Maybe now, maybe not much longer. A red fox trolled through the yard early this AM. I suspect it was a momma hunting down food for her kits. A neighbor down the street was asking how to rid a group of foxes from under her shed. I told they will go in due time, but keep an eye out for them. When the kits emerge it’s fun to watch the little wrestlers and they are harmless.

He bumbled his way off, it was fun to watch. The frogs were chirping hard last night as it rained about an inch yesterday. We are expecting flooding and are under flood watch until Wed. We live on the side of a mountain so we won’t get flooded but the rain in the mountains will gather in the rivers and flood those. The Pineapple Express is soaking us. So the PNW may be in the news due to expected flooding word.

June 4, 2024 at 11:36 am #2482mspartParticipantI’ve got a new project for you. If your grass is scorched you can put in an in ground sprinkler system. Easy as can be. Just have to do a little digging. I did that in the hard red clay of O’ahu when we lived there. I ended up breaking the trenching machine I rented. Tough dirt. Gonna be drier here for the next 10 days word.

June 6, 2024 at 7:30 am #2485RYouParticipantBeen considering that. I’ve held back because 3/4 of the house is surrounded with pavers which I would have the remove. I’m leery of trying to tunnel under them since I don’t know the depth of the base stone. I’m told by others in the neighborhood that have sprinklers the wells need to go 125′ down. We’ve got a public water supply and sanitary sewer system and the utilities tie the cost of the sewer fee to the volume of water used. If I link to the public water supply, it also boosts my sewer bill. A well with a pump will cost about $8000 before any pipe and sprinkler heads are in place.
A thunderstorm rolled in at 2 AM. A loud crack above us woke me up. So I got up and looked out the window at the lightning display and noticed a flicker in the back of the house. I went to the rear slider and SOB, the 60′ pine tree in my neighbor’s backyard if a blaze at the to, even while it’s raining. I didn’t hear any sirens, so I called the FD. I ended up spending an hour with red and yellow lights while they doused it. The neighbor never knew it was on fire until the FD woke them up. Suffice to say, they now have the start for a tall flagpole in their backyard.
June 6, 2024 at 11:34 am #2486mspartParticipantToo bad about the in ground sprinkler. It would be a fun project!!!!!
A grand flagpole. That’s a big tree. We had one go down a few days ago up in the woods, not on our property. If we burned wood, I would be up there harvesting. We stopped burning when embers broke out of the fireplace screen and burned the carpet. Kind of ruined the carpet in that spot. We haven’t had a fire since. Plus the fireplace just didn’t throw out much heat. I bought a fireplace heater that put out more heat but with high ceilings, did not warm the room. So no more indoor fires word.

June 6, 2024 at 11:21 pm #2487RYouParticipantMy wood fireplace did the name, but I didn’t have rug at the time, It put a nice burn in the wood floor. Wifey was at work at the time so I ran over to a Pakistani rug store that was going out of business and bought a 5×7 for the middle of the floor. Wifey came home and loved it, She thought they were too expensive and always wanted one for that spot. She never knew I burned the floor until we were moving. She rolled up the rug and then the pad and flipped out when she saw it. I suggested we leave the rug behind.
Now we have a gas fired fireplace. I lit it once 2 years ago to make sure it worked. Not a lick of heat out of it so it was just sucking furnace heat and sending it up the chimney. I haven’t burned it since.
June 7, 2024 at 12:29 pm #2488mspartParticipantWell, our ceiling fan has been on the blitz for quite a long time. Last night it stopped with a horrible noise. So I get to replace that one today or tomorrow. Probably tomorrow since we are going out tonight to celebrate our daughter’s birthday word.

June 7, 2024 at 7:41 pm #2489RYouParticipantI’d rather be going out too than spending the fussing with a ceiling fan. Get the remote adapter if it doesn’t come with one.
June 10, 2024 at 11:33 am #2490mspartParticipantWell, we bought them two years ago. Put one in and then the plan for the other fell through. So we kept it. It turns out it is the same stupid one that we had. I put up essentially the very same fan. We thought it was different. So next time, I will get one with a remote so I don’t have to pull strings all the time. It runs from an outlet that is not switched. So a remote would be nice word.

June 10, 2024 at 10:52 pm #2492RYouParticipantYou can add it any time. It is wired inside the base of the fan. It will control the lights too if you have them.
June 11, 2024 at 11:12 am #2493mspartParticipantOoooooooh. I see what you are saying. I will look into that. As well as a fan balancing kit word.

June 12, 2024 at 7:26 am #2494RYouParticipantH D and Lowes has both. Thin peelable tape to attach to the top of the blades. The trick is finding the right amount and which blade to weight.
First 90’s of the year headed this way with T storms mixed in. It’s always enjoyable taking a natural outdoor shower.
June 12, 2024 at 11:26 am #2495mspartParticipantTried the balancing kit last night. No good. Not one position made it really all that great. Last fan we did it and it worked great. I don’t know what is wrong here. Probably me word.
