Yep, that’s the deal word.

August 14, 2024 at 1:15 pm #2546RYouParticipantI think it was Albania that was awarded their first Olympic medal ever, but it was a Russian wrestling for them.
I’ve never seen Dake as gassed as he was in the 2nd period of his 20-12 loss. He was ridiculously slow fending off those exposed ankles picks. He was totally outside his normal defense in that bout.
August 15, 2024 at 12:11 pm #2547mspartParticipantYes, he did look a bit sluggish. I’m fairly happy with the results from our team. 4 medals in 6 weights. Pretty good.
On another note, we have 5 blueberry bushes that are overwhelming us. We have copious jalapenos. A few Habaneros. Gotta go down the road to pick blackberries. We have some squash and tomatoes as well. My wife planted black tomatoes, I have never heard of such a thing word.

August 16, 2024 at 3:11 pm #2548RYouParticipantCan’t beat wild blackberries. My father taught how they blackberry butter in Germany. It’s a really smooth blackberry jelly. All of the worthwhile blackberry patches out here are gone, lost to housing development. We used to fill every pot mom had in the cupboard.
My son in law brought over some black tomatoes, cherry size. We had never seen them before. At first I thought he brought plums. They were good eating.
Well the RU assistant isn’t going to be Snyder or Retherford. They just named Mike Labriola (Nebraska). He just has to pass the background check. He’s coming over from the Lehigh Valley Regional Training Center. He grew up in Bethlehem PA less than an hour from Rutgers, so I think he’ll be around a while.
August 18, 2024 at 4:15 pm #2549RYouParticipantAs these GKs get older and more active it gets harder and harder to keep with their pace. As they outgrow their bikes, we take them use here. Yesterday we had 6 down and 5 wanted to go for a ride. 2 just learned without training wheels so all 5 were street ready. They were all over the place. After about 30 mins the 2 oldest decided to have a race back home. I never had the chance to stop them and had to hang back with the youngest.
August 19, 2024 at 12:34 pm #2550mspartParticipantYeah, Grandparents are no match for the energy contained in a little body. I may miss blackberries here this year. Blue berries are taking all the time plus all the other things going on. We have wild blackberries everywhere in the PNW. They are an invasive species and just thrive here. Tough to tame. But every August, they are welcome. Not so much the rest of the year word.

August 20, 2024 at 12:20 pm #2551mspartParticipantWell, the rain has started. We had a very rare electrical storm Saturday night. Apparently 1150 lightning strikes, very unusual. It was fairly mild in view of the storms we saw in MN when we lived there from 94-01. Those were some crazy storms. Anyway, we received 0.95 inches in our area. A lot of water came down. It is raining again today, predicted for 0.1 inch but I think it is more. It has been raining fairly steadily for a few hours. I turned off the sprinkler system this morning. Just have to remember to turn it back on.
And now for something completely different, our bunny, who was yuge, I mean 20 lbs, has lost a lot of weight and now her legs don’t work. I think she is on the way out. This is too bad. The little preschoolers love the bunny and she might be gone by the time they come back word.

August 20, 2024 at 2:08 pm #2552RYouParticipantNope, doesn’t sound good for the bunny. Our dogs went the same way. They didn’t eat much and were lackadaisical, then the legs went. The first went in his sleep, had a vet come to the house for the second. The kids buried them in the backyard. When we moved my son came and dug up the boxes and reburied them at his place.

August 21, 2024 at 11:55 am #2554mspartParticipantWe have 3 dogs buried here. Those were pretty emotional things to do quite honestly. My daughter in law who is a vet tech suggested I help the process along. I probably should but can’t do that. But the bunny is not doing well. I haven’t yet seen her this morning, but I will soon. We have been moving her from outside to a cage inside in case rats have been doing something to her. I see no blood or anything. So I don’t think that is happening. I think she is just failing word.

August 22, 2024 at 8:54 am #2555RYouParticipantAt least she’ll be back with some old friends lying side by side with the dogs.
August 22, 2024 at 12:17 pm #2556mspartParticipantYes, there is that. Now the rain is forecast for the next 3 days. Seems like it is coming back a bit earlier than usual. But to be honest, we need the water. Our lawn is brown. We have to water the plants to a high dollar number. Temps have lowered also, which is good. #3 son getting married in a little more than a week. Things are pretty good word.

August 23, 2024 at 8:12 am #2557RYouParticipantHey, congrats on the wedding. Another officially “out of the house”.
3rd day of clear blue skies and, again no rain. No rain in teg forecast for the next 10 days. The lawn is beyond brown, nearing crispy. Its sandy loam soil and porous as heck. The neighbors pump lawn irrigation from an aquifer that starts 75 ft down. We have an old well and none working pump. The only benefit is that I can replace it since its grandfathered, otherwise the town has stopped issuing permits for new wells. One of these days I’ll have to look into replacing the system and trenching the irrigation pipes and heads. I’ve held off since I’ve been told it may be 7-8000 for the new electric, well and pump, and excludes the irrigation system. That’s a deep dive for a green lawn.
August 23, 2024 at 12:19 pm #2558mspartParticipantYeah, for sure a lot of dough to put out for green grass. The last few years ours has gone black, like it was burned by fire. Very odd for PNW. We’ve had 1 inch of rain so far and we are supposed to get another inch today and tomorrow. Gonna be wet and cold here. Next week temps go up again. Looking forward to the weekend word.

August 27, 2024 at 12:14 pm #2560mspartParticipantMy #3 son gets married on Saturday. We went to dinner last night with his new in-laws. Nice people. It was a good evening word.
