Hit 60 here yesterday so I spent a lot of time outside in the sun. I opted to replace a broken wheel stud which turned into a major effort getting the caliper off. I watched video on Youtube and the guy made it look easy getting the caliper bolts out. No doubt he restarted the video after spending a lot of time getting them loose. I’ve since learned they loctite on those bolts at the factory. The bolt head is on the backside and its near impossible to get any leverage pressure. After about two hours I had them off and had the new stud, rotor, caliper and wheel back on in 15 minutes. The local auto guy wanted $275 for the job. Now I know why. I had to extend the ratchet with a 5 foot length of steel pipe underneath to break the sealant. I had about 4 inches of space under the passenger door to pull up on the bar, but the seals loosened.

Wifey tested pos for type A flu so I was more than happy to get out of the house and away from her. So far, I haven’t picked it up from her. Rain is expected this asternoon sop back in the house I go.

Spent the day at the zoo not seeing many animals. However a silverback gorilla semi half heartedly pounded on the glass, so that was exciting. They are big!! Overall a good day, but the 2 and 5 year olds held out better than my wife and I. We figured 2 hours and that would be it. I think we were there for 4 and 1/2 hours word.

We haven’t been to a zoo since the kids were little, the Bronx Zoo. It’s a tough neighborhood to drive through to get there. Last time we went, we were stopped at a light and three thugs threatened to smash the van with bats unless we gave them money. Fortunately, the light turned, and I sped off not looking back for injuries. From then on, we stayed with petting farms.

Petting farms are good. We didn’t run into any trouble. I did hear today that a Brooklyn McDs now no longer allows minors younger than 20 in the place without a parent and ID. Apparently, the place was a shambles as the kids ran amok. Robbing, stealing, knifings, fightings, harrassment, now are all gone and the place is much quieter. Its true I tell you.

Days will be dry so I can do some cleanup outside tomorrow due to the wind storm we had. Lots of tree limbs magically fell out of the trees. Got one 12 foot long. Also need to work some drain issues in a few sinks. I’ll be busy tomorrow word.

The Bronx and Brooklyn are disasters these days. Both are NYC boroughs, and the city council basically follows Sa Francisco management. They rewrote the felony crime book and downgraded much to misdemeanors and adopted no cash parole. Crime is rampant and even worse given the volume of aliens now residing in the city. Downtown NYC is a crime fest and those that work there are fighting off the return to office edicts because of the crime. The big businesses have started to non renew leases and moving NJ or Long Islan if not out of the northeast. The NYC mayor sees it and is trying to fix it, but the NY governor is threatening to remove him which she has the authority to do. It’s incredible how the city has declined in the past 4-5 years.

Yes, it has happened rather rapidly. Similar in Seattle. Seattle was known as the emerald city for 50 years. But since about 10 years ago, it has rapidly declined. Same thing, what was a felony is now a misdemeanor, no cash bail, letting people go after arraignment. It is just crazy. Why is this happening word?

Expense of incarceration is deemed excessive.

Wild weather bouncing between high 50’s and mid 30’s. Wind has been 30-40 mph which makes 55 chilly.

The gang was over for wifey’s birthday. I booked a trip to Bermuda in June, and then Switzerland, Italy and France in August.

The state wrestling tournament enters the finals this weekend. We have a 3X champ that got himself in a real pickle at the district tournament 2 weeks ago. His father confronted a bunch of opposing fans about their jeering. One pushed him backward and on top of fans in lower seats. The kid had just won his district title bout and ran up into the stands when he saw his father go down. The kid started letting the fists fly. The cops handcuffed the kid and his and led them out. The NJSIAA which oversees NJ HS sports DQ’d the kid out of the tournament taking his chance to be a rare 4 time champ away. So he gets a lawyer and files in civil court for reinstatement. The NJ courts have never heard of a complaint involving school sports admin but in this case the judge ruled in favor of the kid on the basis the sport commissioner conducted an discipline investigation without informing the wrestler…..no due process. So the kid gets to wrestle in the region tournament last weekend and wins to qualify for the state tournament. So earlier this week the town PD who removed them handcuffed, arrested the kid on an assault charge. Hearing that, the state commissioner filed with the appellate court to remove the stay of the DQ but that court wouldn’t hear the plea, so he wrestles this weekend for his 4th title. The court order states the state must allow him to wrestle. The commissioner has already stated that they will allow him to wrestle but there is nothing to bar the commission from DQing him afterward and taking away any placement at the tournament. The fireworks will continue next week after the tournament. Everyone is waiting to see if the state DQs him before he hits the podium. Speculation suggests they will move 2nd and 3rd to co-champs if they didn’t wrestle in the semis, then everyone else up two places.

The public consensus is he shouldn’t be wrestling given his conduct which was recorded by quite few with their phone. The state sports commissioner’s office really runs a dictatorship so it’s not a surprise the DQ decision got tossed.

Last year the same commissioner was embroiled in another flagrantly poor decision over a state championship basketball game. Team A put up a basket with the last shot of the game to win by one point. Per the refs, game over. Team A wins. Coach of team B protests and says the shot was after time expired. The refs void the shot without looking at any replay and declare Team B the champs, purely on the protest oof B’s coach. Now there is untold number of phone video of that final shot from all angles in the gym showing the ball in the air with time on the clock. The refs look at the phone video but won’t change the call. On Monday, school A admin files a protest with the state commissioner’s office and included 5 videos of the shot with the clock with testimony the refs declared their school the champs and the ensuing change by the refs. The commissioner would not reinstate the initial call going so far as to issue an apology. Even the refs for game issued an apology. School A then turns to the civil court to have the commissioner’s decision overturned. As usual the court refuses to hear the plea as it is an education issue continuing the tradition of refusing to hear such complaints. Because that case was declined by the court, is the reason why everyone was surprised this other judge agreed to hear the wrestler’s DQ case.

I’ve seen some traffic about this kid on the intermat forums. Unless they are going to put him in jail, I think they should let him wrestle. If he could be out on bail in time for the state tourney, he should be able to wrestle. I don’t mind the assault charge, but if he gets out on bail he is free to move around as he pleases legally, and I would suppose that includes participating in a tourney he is qualified for. But I don’t think the assault charge should just go away. I hear he is 19 so he is an adult and should be charged. I don’t know why the sport commissioner would take his chance away if he is fully complying with the law that he is in trouble with. Do they kick him out of school because of legal issues? That would be surprising.

Not much excitement over here. My wife’s sister and her family are visiting so that’s kind of fun word.

I don’t live near there. But I hadn’t heard that. I had heard there are rumblings on Mt Rainier. I’ll check out Mt Adams.

We have a bunch of volcanoes here in PNW. I remember when Mt. St. Helens blew, I was a teen just east of Seattle. That was a big deal. Lots of people dead. Many steamed and melted. Others washed away with the mud slides. Bad deal word.

My cousin wax in Washington at the time and shipped a jar of ash. I still have it somewhere with my mineral collection. He’s with the Coast Guard but has since moved up to Alaska and is captain of a cutter patrols US the fishing and crabbing boats. The Chinese and Russians like to poach the US. He’s boarded quite a few of their ships.

You know, I don’t have any ash from that. I do know that the year after was a bumper crop of apples because the ash would allow the water go get to the ground but it prevented the water from evaporating. So the apple trees had more water at their root system. I did a research paper on that in college. It wasn’t the minerals, silica doesn’t really help nurture plants. Which is what I thought at the beginning. So that was interesting.

On second or third eruption, Seattle got a dusting. I remember the cars seems dustier than usual. It was ash. Seattle actually didn’t get much ash. The ash went east mostly. One time it came north but went around Seattle. I remember seeing the ash plume the time it erupted 3 times in one day. It looked like it was not very far away. The plume was huge word.

It looks like you may get chance this year. Mt. Adams is rumbling. It was an incredible spring day, 68F and blue sky.

Well I hope not. That would not be good news. It is fairly close to Mt St Helens. It has been quaking as well over the years. But increased activity is always something to watch closely word.
