ParticipantNCAA weekend. Wifey not happy, too much wrestling on the tube. We go through this every year. Sunday will be back to normal.

ParticipantI can’t do that. I watch it during the day but not in the evening.
I did think it interesting that #1 and #2 at 125 both lost in the quarters. PSU lost in the lightest two weights. Lilledahl fell. I haven’t looked since they were at 141 so I will have to look at that word.

ParticipantI presume you’ve watched Hendrickson take out Steveson by now. If not, it’s worth the time. Hendrickson was on top of his game. Steveson looked like he expected to win easily.

ParticipantMy brother texted me about that match saying the announcers were out of their minds with this win. I kind of feel bad for Gable, he has had a number of disappointments with WWE and NFL, this is really amazing. I watched the last 45 seconds or so of the match. I thought Gable would get away right at the end but Hendrickson held on for the win. Great effort by Hendrickson and now Gable can be noted as the only Olympic gold medalist to lose an NCAA championship. I’m guessing he went in over confident. And that is why the competition is held.
Will Gable try to make the World Team this year? I hope so, I think he makes it. But if Hendrickson is there as well, he may try again to upset Gable. This scenario played out with Dan Gable and Larry Owings. Larry beat Dan at NCAA and then tried to gain a spot on the World Team I think it was and was the only person to score a point on Gable. We’ll see if Hendrickson can do that one better.

Participantyeah, Gable totally underestimated Hendrickson’s improvement I sense he was a bit gassed in those final seconds. I’ve never seen anyone hold him down like Hendrickson did. I don’t think Steveson wants his career to end like it did at the NCAA and expect he’ll be on the mat in Las Vegas. Parris will be there so that will make for an interesting finish for the heavies. Do they give Steveson the top seed if he shows up based on his past or Parris, the reigning top dog? Either way Hendrickson will have two brutal bouts to win the USA title if he can make the semi.
Taylor got off to a good coaching career with 2 NCAA champs. Neither Hamiti nor Hendrickson were there under Smith, neither had won a previous title or favored to win this year, so I guess you have to give Taylor the credit for the titles.

ParticipantI agree about Taylor. He took a program that wasn’t supposed to be top 5 and made them top 5. I’d say he did a great job this year. He will have to keep it up and improve next year to solidify his status I think.
Looking forward to Vegas. I used to go when I did Veterans wrestling and that was a fun time. I really enjoyed being there to watch everyone. I had a ball doing the Veterans for 3 years word.

ParticipantI never had the chance. I tear my ACL second as a freshman in HS. They didn’t have the surgical technique the have today. I still have a 7″ scar where they went in and cleaned me up. The knee was never the same and the docs advised I quit the sport. My knee still gives me a weather report for rain in the forecast. Aches like heck just prior to rain. It must have something to do with air pressure changes. Final X is in Newark this year. The sons and I have talked about bringing the grandboys to it but haven’t committed to tix just yet.

ParticipantYeah, that’s right in your backyard! Should be fun.
My best friend in college did the same playing flag football and softball. Big scar. I don’t know if he can tell the weather but I believe it. My mom could tell when the weather was changing and was 100% correct. Somehow she could sense the barometric pressure changes. She had asthma and allergies galore so that is the somehow word.

ParticipantCrazy weather day. 60n overnight then a high of 82 at 3 PM, dropped to 70 by 6:30 pm, not unexpected. At 6:45 we were down to 54as the wind from the north blew in. 7:15 it was 45. From a T and shorts to sweatshirt and sweatpants.

ParticipantMy wife is increasing the size of our garden. Plus putting in a deer fence. We were able to get 3 posts in. Our ground apparently was either a glacier field or they filled the ground with river rock. We bought an auger and it keeps bucking on rocks big and little. We have to use a trenching shovel to get the rocks out. 6-8 inch long. While rototilling I ran over a big rock, it was about 1 foot long-ish, about as wide as tall too. Very heavy. It was a lot of work and my grip failed, my forearms burned. Still do actually just typing this up. So we had a busy weekend. End of this week will go fishing at out Westport with my son. He will dive and spear, I will sit on the jetty and fish and make sure he is ok word.

ParticipantI’m with you, fish off the rocks. I still freeze in wet suit and it doesn’t have to be winter runoff.
I was surprised Hendrickson got the Hodge. I thought Starocci would get the award given his 5 titles, but Hendrickson had more pins, and that huger upset of Steveson.
April 2, 2025 at 1:29 pm #3690mspart
ParticipantI don’t like that Starocci got the chance for 5 titles. I don’t like that anyone has a 5th year, that;s just not right. Hendrickson was the logical choice in my opinion.
I’ll let you know how the fishing goes word.

ParticipantI agree with you on the 6th Covid year, bad idea all around; however, I would have favored giving the seniors that missed their final NCAA tournament an added year, but nooooo those seniors were specifically excluded from the added year.
