Sounds like a good deal for the truck. My camry died some years ago so I had to get a new car. Bought a used or new 2013 VW Passat TDI. This car was part of the software issue that cost VW a ton of money. I am at the end of paying it off with a 0% loan from VW. I get 40mpg at the high end. It has been a fairly good car. Very reliable. One thing about it is it takes DEF, diesel exhaust fluid. If you don’t add when you first get the advisory, it may not reset and then it costs money to get someone to reset it. So I learned that. But it has been a pretty good car so far word.

My son just bought a used diesel. The issue he wasn’t aware of is that it’s intended to run hot which means highway driving. That’s fine since he hits the highway 5 days a week going to work. It’s on the weekends when he does mostly local driving taking the kids to their games, the store, etc. It has a computer that will kick on to burn off excess carbon and when it runs it can burn an extra 1/2 gallon so to get it up over 900F, but at idle. Outside of that he gets 29-30 MPH on a Sierra pickup. He’s learned to jump on the highway from one exit to the next rather than take local roads in order to get from one end of town to another.

I’ve been told I need to, at least once a week, really put the gas on and get it heated up. Otherwise the turbo inlet will get clogged. The mechanic I take it to thought that was a deal but he removed it and it was clean. I do not often get on the freeway with the car and traffic is so congested here anymore that it is not much different than surface streets. When that turbo kicks in, it is a nice acceleration boost. I’ve never had a car that moves like this ever before. But usually I drive sweetly word.

Nothing but clouds and rain the past 4 days. Haven’t been able to do a darned thing outside, but the grass is back to green.

Same here. It was really nice, cool but no rain for a couple of weeks. We got the deer fence up for the garden, increased the size of the garden, and are almost finished with it. We are heading to Portland soon for a family get together so no more progress on that for awhile word.

WTT Dake over Starocci 3-3 criteria. I think Dake’s reign is about over. He’s fading fast. He’ll take one more shot for 2028 gold, then turn to coaching.

Both are at the Nittany Lion ClUb now. That has to take any edge away either may have over the other.

Yeah, 3-3 is close. Eternal youth is something most of us will never achieve. I am an exception of course!!

I was not as invested in the WTTs this year. We have had such an incredible group of wrestlers this last 5-10 years and they are going away. The new crop is just not energizing. Perhaps they will surprise at Worlds, word!

Mesenbrink may well become the best the US has ever produced. He’s got a shot at that moniker. I’ve never seen someone wrestle relentlessly like he does, not even Cale. Cale was deliberate. With Mesenbrink, he is in constant movement with arms and legs flying. He’s got an uncontained tank. I can’t wait to see him on the world stage.

Welcome back, you’ve been gone a little while. It’s good to take a break every once in a while.

I don’t know anything about Mesenbrink. But there are a lot of all time greats from the US, so that is a tall order to aspire to. I’m not saying he is aspiring to it, but still. But I can think of a few that are incredible. Burroughs and Snyder as the most recent, with a nod to Dake and Taylor. Then we have Big Bruce, John Smith, Mark and Dave Schultz, Kenny Monday, Lee Kemp, Kevin Jackson to name a few.

If he is our guy at 74, he will have to win gold at Worlds to even enter the conversation word. But I wish him luck.

Agreed, proof is on the mat, Mesenbrink tires you out just watching him. We’ll see how he fairs at Final X against David Carr.

Just back from a week in Bermuda. It’s a tropical isle only 100 minutes away. Great Caribbean style seafood. We’ll be heading off to Europe in August. Switzerland, northern Italy, France and Monaco

Wow!! You didn’t get caught in the Triangle and survived to report the trip. That is amazing!! How was Bermuda? Is it warm there. It seems like it is more in the northern latitudes to be really warm. But I’ve never been there and have no idea.

Our last trip to Italy we were in northern Italy for part of it. We went to Bolzano and drove through the Dolomites and back. My wife specifically wanted to go to Passo Giau. That road is the crookedest road in the world. Hairpin 180 degree turns, or almost 180 degrees. But the views were incredible and my wife took great pics of that whole trip. Really incredible vistas. You drive through many of the ski towns there and they all look Bavarian. Very cool really. Passo Giau is about 20 km from Cortina d’Ampezzo where the 2026 winter olympics will be along with Milan. That might be a cool place to go as well. Much easier to get to both from Venice. Straighter roads.

In addition, Bolzano is the site of a concentration camp from WWII. In addition, there is a museum there that houses the ice man that was found not far away. He died thousands of years ago. All in all, Bolzano was a pretty cool place. But there are a lot of cool places in northern Italy. I hope that is a cool trip for you. I have thought about flying into zurich and do Switzerland for a week or so and then head to Italy from there. Cheaper than going direct to anywhere in Italy.

Welcome back and I’m glad you survived Bermuda word.

My cousin operates the family bakery in Old Zurich so we’ll be stopping by for a couple of days, then head to Lucerne. Last time we were there we drove north through Bavaria and the Black Forest before heading to Munich to meet up with my sone and his wife. The girls went to the Munich Opera House while we made a tour of bierhauses. Augustiner remains my favorite. I’ll check out Passo Giau and see if we can swing over to it.

Back to crazy weather, 63-64 earlier in the week, then 74 and two days at 94. Back to a high of 63 tomorrow.

It was hot here last week, all windows open, furnace off. Windows are still open and the temp inside is 61F. That’s a bit chilly. It is not supposed to warm up soon, so we might have to shut the windows and turn on the furnace again.

I did set the in ground sprinkling system, it turns on at 4:00 am and runs 30 minutes for each of 7 stations. Well, I forgot that that runs right through the shower time. Shower was warm but water did not come out with gusto word.

A lawn sprinkler system is on my bucket list but the cost to sink a new well is +$5k out here. We have an older well and pump which hasn’t been used in over 30 years. I have no clue how deep it is sunk and if it still works. Most of the neighbors have well irrigation. Some say their wells are at 125′. The pump is in the basement, so it is likely noisy and not something I’d be willing to run at 4 AM. We I get further down the road with wifey’s project list I’ll call someone and start to figure out what I can do. Getting a well permit around here is a tough ask around here, but a plumbing let me know that since I have a system, it would be deemed a repair of a grandfathered system. Also, the well and pump are in the front of the house which the town no longer accepts. It must be on the side of the house for aesthetics. They could deem that a new installation to negate the grandfather permit.
