Well, she chose well. But she really should see this stuff.

I get to spray the grass for moss today. Moss grows rampantly around here. It’s green so from a distance the lawn looks ok but there is moss everywhere. We’ll attempt to get rid of it and get the grass growing. I get to do that after work.

We get moss but only on the north side which shady 99% of the year. I use powdered lime and it’s gone in a few days

Cut the grass for the first on the year on Friday. No rain it it’ll need to cut again on Tuesday.

Well, my wife decided she needed a floral barrier to the garden. So I had to remove the grass in that area. I rented a sod cutter that worked pretty good. But I’m still sore from all that work. Lifting the rolls of sod, they are very heavy and there’s no good ergonomic way to do it. But I’m slowly recovering. That cutter worked pretty good. Much easier than a shovel.

2 days at 89F last week, 1 at 88 and 2 in the low 80’s. I got toasted replacing some siding on the house. It still better than to 33 they say we are getting Monday AM. We get big temperature swings on bot winter and summer, but nowhere near many as we’ve experienced this winter.

We have low slope roof over the kitchen, 12″ over 20 ft. I’m have someone quote replacing it with a fiberglass deck. It currently has rolled asphalt which is only 5 years old but it’s already showing granular loss and will need to be resealed this summer. It just seems to be a maintenance headache. It’s 640 Sqft. I had someone quote a metal roof but he also told me I’d to be careful walking on it. That was enough to dissuade me from metal. I’ve been on plenty of sky decks with fiberglass flooring that you can walk on.

We have a metal roof on a outdoor shed covering. Very slippery when wet and also dry. Not recommended for older folks like me who have to get up there and clean it and I’m busy slipping all over the place. No golf shoes on that!! They are more like lean toos. Fully open to the elements but has a roof. It stays pretty dry in there and we have a lot of stuff stored that is used often. Riding lawnmower, attachments to said mower (used them this weekend), and a lot of other stuff that is not used so much. My son’s home made forge is in there as well. Lumber and son’s other tools. As long as it that stuff stays dry, it is ok. So far so good. But I hate getting on that roof. It’s under a bunch of cedars and they drop a lot of stuff on it.

Anthony Ashnault came out of retirement to go against Real Woods in RAF08. We all hoped he’d keep it close and he did. Down 3-2 with under 10 secs left and Woods putting on the defensive Ash Nault tried to flip over Woods in hope of getting to the back of Woods legs. Almost, Woods caught him for the TD and exposure for a 7-2 win. The next day he announces he’s leaving Princeton and heading back to the Rutgers staff.

I did not catch RAF 08. Real is the deal for sure. I do’nt know much about Ashnault but kudos to him for doing it, making a little money, and on his decision to head back to Rutgers.

I rented a sod cutter once. I didn’t know the depth was adjustable and end up cutting 2.5″ slabs. I couldn’t roll them, so I had to cut into short slabs and drag them on a tarp to where I wanted to place them,

Yeah, they are heavy. 1.5 inch cut is much more manageable. Just thinking about it makes me tired and sore. We are in for a stretch of dry for the next 10 days so we’ll be getting more dirt and shoveling.

Next week I have to figure out my options for medical coverage from not medicare and then medicare. Once I understand those things, I will think about putting a date on my retirement. It is coming closer and closer.

I don’t think the Medicare rules have changed so you can stay on an employer’s healthcare plan until you retire. It’s probably worthwhile to compare the costs as it may be cheaper to remain with your employer plan for you and your wife. Unless she qualifies for Medicare or has access to a private plan, you’ll have to find her coverage also is opt out of the employer plan. That half could get a little pricey. When you compare with Medicare keep in mind you’ll likely need 4 separate plans to matchup with what you get from your employer.
Medicare covers hospital care and is free
Medicare Part B covers out of hospital care, clinics, doctor office visits, etc. It should cost under $200 per month.
Pharmacy plan. Medicare doesn’t cover pharmacy. The cost has been increasing every year. 5 years ago I paid $50 per month, now it’s over %100 for matching the coverage I had with my employer.
Medicare Care Advantage, Medicare B only covers 80%. An Advantage Plan provides an out of pocket limit on cost.

YOu are speaking Greek to me. But those are all the questions I have to get answers for.

Shoveled another yard of dirt on Saturday and mowed a neighbor’s way overgrown lawn. I think it was overwhelming for him to look at so I took care of it. Hot tubbed with my wife that night and we both felt much better.

Oh and how about that US nationals? Jax, Spencer, and Mason lost. Very surprising, Jax is not invinceable. We’ve known Spencer is not invincible for some time. And Mason lost in quarters so that was surprising.

WTTs will be something this year. I saw the 3rd place match for Jax and DeSanto. It was pretty rough. The match Jax lost to Davino was also quite rough. He’s going to have to create a new level if he is going to be successful. They have figured him out.

Yeah, 65 KG was crazy, a complete flip from NCAAs.

NCAA – 133, Jax beat Davino who beat Blaze
USSN – 61KG/134LB Blaze beat Davino who beat Jax.

Who will we see up at 141 next season?

The Rutgers recruit Anthony Knox, came in 3rd at 57. He’s got a murky background. He was a 3 time state champ and picked upma controversial 4th title last year. At the district tournament His father got into a an argument with o[pposing parents. Knox left the sideline and went up into the stands and ended up in a fight. He and his father got arrested. The state athletic association DQ’d him for the regional tournament. His father sued the state and won a stay of the association ruling for 2 weeks. That was enough time for Knox to win the region qualifier and the state tournament. He committed to Cornell and was taking a grey shirt up there practicing at the regional training center up there while his arrest moved through the court. All of sudden, mid fall, it gets announced that he decommitted Cornell and signed on with Rutgers. No other coaches knew he was opting out of Cornell. Rutgers recruited him heavily before he committed to Cornell. The backstory is that Coach Goodale heard from a friend that Knox wasn’t enjoying the environment up there and got word to his father that Rutgers remained
interested. Within 24 hours he decomitted and signed on with Rutgers with a $250000 NIL deal. Cornell could not pay him a dime under Ivy rules.

Wow, that is quite the story. I remember the fight and the arrest. I wonder if Rutgers will make a mistake or not on this. 250K is something pretty big.

My wife and I spent the weekend on the northern Oregon coast. We stayed in Seaside but that is very close to Cannon Beach. So we spent time in both. It was just a quick vacation but ended up being amazing. The weather on Saturday cleared up and the sun actually came out. It was cool in the breeze but very very pleasant at 64F. Sunday the temps got to 84F and not a cloud in the sky. Today it is back to low 60s. We hit it perfect. On Sunday we started to go to Cannon Beach, but the traffic was horrendous. We finally found a place to park in Seaside and walked to the beach. It was about 3 hours there. It was a great time people watching, reading, my wife actually went into the ocean a little. Let me tell you, the water is so cold it gives me a massive head ache when I get my feet in so I don’t do that anymore. Wee got sunburned even though we put the stuff on. Great drive home and we just had a really nice time.

Any day at the beach is a good day. It’s been in the 60’s of late but yesterday we 74 and today it’ll be in the 80’s. Looks like that warm weather has made its way east.

Roofer came yesterday and ripped off the existing deck. He started laying new plywood but got halfway through. Now I’m getting antsy. Rain is expected tomorrow and he’s got to finish the plywood, prime it and lay down the fiberglass in time for it to cure before covering the edges all before it rains. I’m hoping those weather guessers are wrong once again. I don’t feel lucky on this one.

We roofed last year. They replaced a bunch of plywood due to water absorbtion. Hopefully they fixed that scenario.
