Wet and rainy here now. Dark too. After Saturday, I think it starts to warm up so that will be nice.

Actually we are pretty lucky that we have the weather guessers. Back in the day, they just got what they got. Now at least we usually have a little warning. Hawaii is gonna be getting it with the Kona winds coming. That’s a reversal in the trade winds. Happens a time or two each year. Gets really hot and muggy. But it can bring bad weather with it.

4 days in the 70’s including a 79er, 35 this evening and more snow. Only in NJ can you get summer/winter weather on back to back days

Well, the stock market is tanking and tanking my 401k with it. I’m concerned that this war is not going to be a short war and my savings will get hurt. I have an option to put it all in a “savings account” that gets minimal gain, but does not lose. I’m thinking of doing that right now until this stuff stops. I’ve been fairly successful getting out while the market goes down and getting back in before it goes up too much. So I’m trying that again today. Good luck to me.

I read that WA is sending rainy weather across the US. Boy we had a good rain yesterday. And the wind was up, our power blinked a few times. We had .8″ of rain, which is a lot around here for a day. We need it, we are behind on the wet meter so far this year. The trees and grass are loving it. Supposed to get .7″ today. That catches us up a bit. It’s calm right now, but should start any second now.

I hope you live on a hill and that 15″ drains off. It would be a mess around here with that much rain over 2 days. Right now it’s snowing, not sticking but large flakes dissolve as they hit. 78F yesterday and a projected 28F tonight, a 50 degree drop over 36 hours.

Penn State pulled 7 #1 seeds then a #3, a 9, and a #14. Looks like it will be a stretch to pull in 10 AA’s. BTW, Jax Forrest got the #1 at 133.

I live on a hill and it is snowing now. and accumulating. I’m not driving today, the driveway is steep and getting to the main road is even steeper. I have a Dr appointment I am canceling right now. This kind of snow is super slippery and my car is not really good in snow. We lost power for a few seconds a couple of times last night and this morning. So it will be a quiet day today. Just working from home.

I always accomplished more working from home. No distractions. It paid off well at the end of the wrestling season as I was able to watch all pounds of the Big Ten and NCAAs.

I do ok at home but I do like the office. The show is very sparse now mostly on the ground. The hard surfaces are all pretty much clear now. I did a lot of shoveling, I think that warmed up the asphalt and melted the snow quicker. So getting off my hill is doable. I have new tires on my car, the first set was a sport set and had terrible handling in the snow. I didn’t want to chance it with the new tires, I had too much trouble coming home from Leavenworth, WA one winter where it was snowing like crazy and we almost got killed, and did get stuck. That was a bad trip. The tire cables broke so I had even less traction from that. We got over Steven’s pass just before they closed the pass for snow. The traffic coming the other way was already stopped. We were lucky to get out of there.

Nowadays, they close offices at the drop of hat when snow is going to hit since staff can work from home. Not so years back. I can recall one storm that hit around 11 AM and they decoded to let everyone go at 2. Well, everyone else closed included the stores and restaurants. My typical 20 minute commute turned into a 3 hour creeping nightmare.

Yeah, been there, done that. I never had that issue in MN. The snow was dry and they cleared it quickly. In Seattle, the snow is wet and turns to icy slush when a car runs over it. Traction is zero. I’ve had bad commutes before. I’ve had times I couldn’t get up the hill to get to my driveway. Had to abandon the car on the main road. I once borrowed my neighbors tractor and took 4 hours or so clearing that hill and our little area around our houses. It was a lot of snow.

That storm I spoke of was in 1978 and things got worse as the hours passed. So much snow came down people had to abandon their cars on I287. Those cars got plowed under the snow to the point people couldn’t find their car and if they did there was no where to to put the snow when digging it out. The state finally shut dow the interstate and hired digger and tow trucks to find and remove the cars. They towed to a Walmart parking lot and told the drivers to go there to retriever the car.

The people that abandoned the cars got lucky in that there was about a 10 mile stretch where the train line paralleled the highway. If the went to the train station the line allowed them to board and ride with no0 fare. A lot of folks road that train all night from one side of the state to the other and back. The cars were heated and because they ran continuously the tracks were kept clean. By morning the roads had been cleared and they eventually got picked up at a rail station. Periodically the train would stop at a station long enough for the riders to buy food and drinks. Because the people that worked in the stations couldn’t get home they kept them open all night long. A lot of people slept in the rail stations. Yeah they found 3 people frozen dead in their cars once they finally moved them. Ran out of gas and froze. It wasn’t the worst snowfall we had but theose weather guessers blew the snowfall forecast and it occurred midday after everyone had left home.

Wow. I’ve never seen anything like that. That’s incredible. I guess something you had to live through to actually understand it.

NCAAs are mostly going along but there are some upsets. One #2 lost before the quarter finals. All the #1s are on schedule. But there is one guy that was seeded #27 that is in the quarters. So that’s unanticipated.

Looks like David Taylor is paying back for that mammoth million dollar coaching contract. Hired in 2024 after the 2025 recruiting season his first group of recruits include 4 true freshmen that are in the finals. I’m pretty sure Sanderson’s contract bonuses take him over the million dollar mark. Sanderson’s got to be looking over his shoulder at what Taylor is putting together down in Stillwater. All of the oil money has to be feeding a wealthy NIL bankroll.

Yes, Taylor put together quite a team this year. PSU did not do as well as seeded this year. But they did well enough to win comfortably, but not as much as in previous years. They are probably wondering why Starocci couldn’t get a 6th title. (Disclaimer: I am totally against him having a 5th season or anyone else having a 5th season)

Anyway it was really quite exciting with a number of surprises in there.

The first three bouts set the night. 2 champs, 2 upsets. Did you catch the video of the 165 podium? Mesenbrink got off the podium to shake the hand of each placer. He gets to Caliendo and is ignored. I guess a TF beat down and a 0-9 record against Mesenbrink does that to you.

I agree on the five year eligibility rule for COVID offering 6 years for 4 years eligibility would have been more appropriate. Same for those getting a 7th year of eligibility. I know there were / are rumblings of making 5 years of eligibility the standard. Team would have to carry 5 year rosters and payroll. For most schools they will just cut the number of athletes on scholarship.

Oklahoma State may not catch up to PSU next year, but in 2 we could very well a very competitive two team tournament once again.

Agreed. Yes I did see the Caliendo dismissal of Messenbrink. But he did shake at the end of the match. I get it kind of. The champ going to everyone shaking hands and saying good job guys, good job. A bit of a scene really. Caliendo got beat down for sure.

I was expecting an exciting match from Jax, but that didn’t happen. All of his other matches were high flying things. Either Davino is just really really good, or Jax just shut down and played it safe.
