Pipe inside the pipe is one approach. The other is an epoxy coated fabric that is placed inside the pipe all of the way to the septic, then pressured inflating it against the existing pipe walls and cured with UV. They say it’s good for at least 30 years. Before they insert the fabric they clean out the inside of the pipe. They’ll run a camera…[Read more]

The trenchless bladder it a very thin walled epoxy based “balloon” that gets dragged through the pipe and then inflated and cured. It does reduce the inside diameter significantly. Since it’s a sink drain I’m assuming it’s not a 3 or 4 ” D run to the septic. I just don’t know if they make a bladder that small. The alternative is to jamb a…[Read more]

We have an old cast iron waste line from the basement to the street. I used to be throughout the house but over the years as bathrooms were remodeled sections of it were removed because it rusted and failed. When I remodeled the second floor bathroom, I discovered that problem and had to replace all of the horizontal waste pipe. I know the…[Read more]

4 days in the 80’s. Early Indian Summer. 70’s Wednesday to Saturday. I sure hope this is a sign of a warm winter. Gas and electric rates are killing us out here. It’s all because the gov enlisted the state utilities in a regional service providers and forced the shutdown of natural gas electric utilities.

The rest of NJ gets about 50 inches of rain, but since we are close to the coast, we only average 35-40 inches. About 25% of that is from 1 to 3″ downpours.
Can you connect the sink drain to the toilet outlet?

No rain predicted for the next 2 weeks here. Fortunately, the mornings are low 60’s so there is plenty of dew which drips to the grass. I am sure that will change. October is usually a fairly wet month which is great for seeding new grass. The days are predicted to remain in the low 70’s so I expect the tomato plants will continue to turn red…[Read more]

They all have a few brothers and sisters, so the individual attention goes over well. Basically, it’s whatever they want to do.

We have one for the night. He was off from school for Jewish holiday. It has become custom that when birthday is near they get a pick a day for a sleepover with no parents and sibs around. The downside, an hour drive to pick them up and another to drop them back off. We may spend the day at the beach, go fishing or they boardwalk games, a visit…[Read more]

Only 2 bell pepper plants giving a total of 3 peppers. They were buried under the tomato plants. No buds so I ripped them out. Same for my pickling cucumbers. The 2 vines produced 1 pickle but started taking over the garden, so I ripped them out and cut off all the vines. I’ve 6 garlic and a horseradish buried and appear to be doing okay.…[Read more]

I used a plastic mesh with screws on 1.5″ PC pipe to encircle the little raised bed we have. The tomatoes have overgrown the 5 ft high mesh. But it works, no squirrels, rabbits, deer or birds have gotten in. The small wrens have landed on top of the pipes, but I think they knew if the glided down they couldn’t get out.
I bought the plants this…[Read more]

Yeah, don’t know what’s up with tomatoes this year, they’re bearing fruit like crazy. While we were away over 100 turned red. When we left everything was green. Wifey made 4 quarts of tomato sauce and 2 quarts of tomato soup and we still had plenty for salad and sandwiches. The first few days back she spent simmering tomato sauce between naps.…[Read more]

Got 1.5″ Saturday night. Read it was coming so I ripped out an old garden and grass seeded about 70 sq ft. Ripped out plants and weeds, and while digging roots I uncovered about 30 peanuts in the shell buried by squirrels. Someone must have fed them the nuts. I had to add 2 yds of topsoil to the garden and leveled out some low spots around the…[Read more]

I could do 3-4 weeks easily but the wifey was getting antsy to head home after14 days. I think part of the problem was laundry. We never got the chance to get anything cleaned. We weren’t in a hotel long enough to send out and get it back before leaving. We had planned on a couple of 3 night stays while there but we encountered a bunch of…[Read more]

The rail system in Italy, throughout Europe is quite efficient. All of the major cities and some key villages are connected. Milan is about an hour from Como. From there Florence and Genoa and Rome, then on to Naples. Sicily is still disconnected; I think the only route in is by Ferry to Messina and Palermo. My wife’s grandfather is from…[Read more]
