It’s a good sign you’re back to work. Me, the meds are doing the job.

Bah, it’s dark outside by 7:30.

Yep, there is less daylight here as well. Still not 100%, but feeling better.

I made salsa with our garden grown jalapenos and roma tomatoes. It was pretty good but I deseeded all the jalapenos so it was a little bland. Will be making another batch here soon and will leave one jalapeno with seeds and all that. Hopefully that will bring up the heat a little.

We have cucs, zuchs, and tomatoes out the wazoo here. We are still harvesting and my wife is already talking about getting local kiddie farm manure to winter the grow boxes over. Wait!!! We still need to get the stuff out of there. Somewhere in the tangle of tomatoes are bell peppers as well. We have some plants a friend gave us called gypsy peppers, thai hot peppers (they look pretty dangerous), chocolate bell peppers (not doing well), and cayenne peppers (also buried under something not tomatoes).

Deer have been absent, but rabbits invaded and ate the tops off the carrots. So that didn’t work out so well. Overall, we had a pretty good year with the garden.

It is cooling down a lot, 51F this morning. It rained near a half inch yesterday. The rain will come again at the end of the week and I expect it will be with us until the end of June. Such is life here in the PNW word.

Only 2 bell pepper plants giving a total of 3 peppers. They were buried under the tomato plants. No buds so I ripped them out. Same for my pickling cucumbers. The 2 vines produced 1 pickle but started taking over the garden, so I ripped them out and cut off all the vines. I’ve 6 garlic and a horseradish buried and appear to be doing okay. It’ll be another month before I unearth them. Carrots are there too. I can see tops but haven’t dared to pull one. Maybe today when i round up the next batch of tomatoes.

How about that Jax Forest, rising HS senior taking 2nd place in the world tournament. Insane, that he pulled that off. Haines and Hidley were surprises. Lee didn’t look healthy with his knee banded. I expected Hendrickson to do much better, not 1 and done. Zahid has found a new level.

yeah, the recent WCs were quite remarkable. I don’t know anything about Jax other than he is still in HS and what he did is just amazing!! Snyder reaching gold is another high point. Taz looks tapped out now and who knows about Sad. If they are both has beens, then Snyder is the king. I was a little disappointed in Helen. She won with a late takedown but rather than trying to turn her opponent with seconds left she relaxed like it was over and her opponent nearly reversed her. Nice that she won but I think she was lucky at that. Haines and Hidlay I don’t really know and didn’t think would do nearly as well as they did. So they were a surprise. Real did great getting Bronze. Duke had a tough draw but acquitted himself well. Spencer, I don’t know. He looked ok in the match he lost until he didn’t. Something happened, either physical or mental. Overall, I think our chances look pretty good for the next few years. 3 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze and 2 almost bronzes. It’s tough to beat that. Hendrickson was not ready I don’t think. But I think he will improve.

Had the grandkids last night so didn’t get anything done after work. Took them to McDs and they played at the playland and ate a little. Their folks came by and we visited and they took the kiddoes home word.

We have one for the night. He was off from school for Jewish holiday. It has become custom that when birthday is near they get a pick a day for a sleepover with no parents and sibs around. The downside, an hour drive to pick them up and another to drop them back off. We may spend the day at the beach, go fishing or they boardwalk games, a visit to the ice cream shop, and play their favorite board game, Monopoly, at night.

Yeah, the ice cream part sounds great. Nice way to break up an hour drive. That’s a great tradition. We have not done that but our grandchildren are pretty young yet but that’s a great idea for in a few years. I still work so that would be up to my wife. But retirement is creeping up on me so who knows. I bet the kids love it word.

They all have a few brothers and sisters, so the individual attention goes over well. Basically, it’s whatever they want to do.

We have an ice cream shop down the street that serves the best flavors Key Lime Pie, Pumpkin Cream Pie. My favorite is simply an extra thick, soft vanilla shake. A lot office cream shops shut down in winter. This place will have a 15 minute wait line on a Wednesday in January. Longer on Friday Saturday and Sunday night

When I lived in MN, the local DQs would close for the winter. We don’t have that issue here in the Seattle area. Looks like fall arrives next week. Mon-Sun next week rain everyday. Fall has arrived and I am unhappy because that means temps are going down. Means the garden produce might need to be picked before completely ready. But we need the water for sure word.

No rain predicted for the next 2 weeks here. Fortunately, the mornings are low 60’s so there is plenty of dew which drips to the grass. I am sure that will change. October is usually a fairly wet month which is great for seeding new grass. The days are predicted to remain in the low 70’s so I expect the tomato plants will continue to turn red fruit.

Only a month to go until the mat lights get turned on.

It is supposed to rain all week this week. And it is getting cooler so we will need to pick stuff that hasn’t been picked yet. Fall is here. Cooler in the morning, perpetual wet.

I was looking at Seattle rain the other day and we get roughly 39 inches each year. Which isn’t as much as you get probably. But it drizzles here so we don’t get much each day, but it adds up. 159 days of rain on average a year. Rarely do we get 1 inch of rain in a day. Yesterday we got 0.5 inches. So it is just always wet. We paint our deck every couple of years because the paint just doesn’t last. We should have this year but didn’t so we’ll get there next year. Lots of boards need to be replaced.

I also have a kitchen drain line that needs to be ported to the septic. It is on a sump right now and that is not the final solution. That will be a big job. Not looking forward to it. That will mean ripping apart the section of deck that is against the house. It will not be a good thing, but I really need to get it done word.

The rest of NJ gets about 50 inches of rain, but since we are close to the coast, we only average 35-40 inches. About 25% of that is from 1 to 3″ downpours.

Can you connect the sink drain to the toilet outlet?

4 days in the 80’s. Early Indian Summer. 70’s Wednesday to Saturday. I sure hope this is a sign of a warm winter. Gas and electric rates are killing us out here. It’s all because the gov enlisted the state utilities in a regional service providers and forced the shutdown of natural gas electric utilities.

Regarding your question about sink and toilet, we have two feeds to the septic, main house and kitchen. It is the kitchen one that is the problem. Years ago the piping tiles broke and it caused a real problem. So I had a guy come fix it. Rather than fix it right (I admit that is a huge job), he put in a sump. The problem is the sump gets bricks of soap/oil that hold the float down. So then I have a stinky sump mess to clean up. I just want to get that fixed properly. But that means removing the deck from the house. It can be done, and he did it partially, enough to get the sump in. After he saw what happened, he said our main to the septic was probably compromised or would be. The house was built in 1968 so no plastic piping and tile piping was what was used. We said to go ahead and he found remnants of pipe. Now whether he broke them or they were broken I don’t know. It turns out he didn’t really finish the jobs well. But he did lay that new pipe and I think it works pretty good. I just need to get a plastic pipe to go to the house pipe off the kitchen and get that going to the septic tank. Big job really.

Our utility provider just sent out a message that they want us on their program so they can squeeze us if too much energy is being used. All because they went all in on “renewable” energy that can’t keep up with demand word.
