I haven’t been able to login for quite a while. Finally, success and here I am. Th roof took 4 days and fortunately those weather guessers were wrong. The roof is done and looks great. The fiberglass should last a long time with a topcoat every 7-10 years.

Well, I was traveling to UT Sat – late last night. Things were going well until the DEF said I had 200 miles or I couldn’t start my car again. We were just outside Twin Falls ID and they have a VW dealership. I’ve been through this before, but the cost was more than I thought it would be. They replaced the DEF injector, emptied the DEF tank because there was low quality fluid the car computer said and wouldn’t let them reset. Then they found the DEF pump nipple that the hose attaches to broken and leaking. So that had to be replaced. $1950 later, I was on the road and drove straight home to Seattle. Long drive. The DEF system is problematic. Usually it gives you a 1500 mile warning. I got a 200 mile warning. So the leak was fast. Funny that I put in a whole box of DEF fluid just last week. So I’m not sure what the system was saying. But they found the bad pump from that. I hope they were on the up and up. It was a costly drive. We drove because tickets to salt lake were $650. We would have been better off flying, but I guess this was brewing and would have been trouble eventually.

Diesel can be quirky for sure. Burning almost $2K to keep it running is a ridiculous cost for $400 part. They must have taken advantage after seeing your license plate. I’m looking forward to seeing the outcomes of the team trials. We could be seeing the changing of the guard in some of the weight classes.

I don’t know if we’ve seen a changing of the guard. But Final X might be so.

Yeah, the cost for this diesel is too much. However I get pretty good mileage so that might override. However, the way the car calculates the average mileage changed from this trip. They did something and it is not doing what it used to do. So something changed. Also the new DEF pump is making a racket. I can’t hear it on the road but when I park I can hear it.

I guess Carrano got it handed to her. Not that it was a marquee fight or anything. Two has beens, but I heard about it this morning and it lasted 17 seconds.

Ronda Rousey is one nasty biotch. Today will be the 3rd day in the 90’s, 5th +85. We get a break tomorrow as it wont pass 65 as a bunch rain moves in. This is the earliest I’ve ever seen my lawn start to brown out.

The last number of summers our grass has browned up. Never happened before. Mostly anyway. Still green so far.

Started a fire outside last night and we cooked hot dogs with the grand kids, 6 and 3. They liked it. Not so much about marshmallows. They like cooking the mallow but not eating it. Some neighbors came by and ate hot dogs with us. It was kind of fun.

Finally got the oil filter off my John Deere lawn tractor. Used a pipe wrench. Now it is full of fresh oil and waiting for a valve adjustment. Then I need to get on the chipper that I tore apart last year, put back together wrong, the blade was not tightened because I got distracted by a neighbor and it shot through the plenum. So hopefully the blades are on tight and I have a few more bolts to replace and then it should be good. If I was retired, I actually have time to work on this stuff and get stuff done. I get home from work and really don’t have much energy to do stuff at night. So I have to force myself out there. We bought this D125 because it was hardly used, 70 hours and cheap. Our LA135 has close to 200 hours. So we thought we could sell the LA135 for what we bought the D125 for and be even, or sell for more. But it works well enough that we are having a time of making that transistion. I want to get the D125 fully maintained so I have grease to do, valve lash to adjust, and blades to sharpen. The LA135 should have the valve lash adjusted and points greased. I have a jack to make all that easier but lost a 1 inch o-ring that keeps the shear pin in there. Shear pin broke. So I have a lot of stuff to do really.

I broke down and bought a used Cub Cadet lawn tractor last March. It’s 2006 with 500 hours but had been sitting in some old guy’s garage for 10 years. I had to replace the tires and seat, then a tuneup, oil change and new belts. I turned the key and nothing. I was able to a new ignition switch, and vroom it started right up, but the blades wouldn’t kick on. Found a new PTO switch and vroom the blades are cranking. Then new blades and new LED headlights. All in for about $25 bucks. I didn’t mind the walk behind mower, but it couldn’t handle the fall leaves, and I burned far too much time raking and blowing leaves. Now I can just suck them up. We have but one tree that drops leaves, but we get most of the leaves blown by the wind from an adjacent street. This town has a rake out program where you load up the leaves at the curb and the town comes around picks them up. All of the leaves within a block end up at our place because of the wind direction.

Yeah, they are very handy as leaf vacuum cleaners. We have 1.25 acres with about a 11k sq ft yard to mow. So a push mower is a lot of work, even the self propelled ones. If they had those with a 42 inch deck or 48 inch deck, maybe. Nope, my hips and legs are wearing out. The guy that sold us the house gave us a self propelled mower that I used on that. My wife didn’t know it was self propelled and tried to use it and it was a disaster for her. He also gave us a rider but pride kept me from using it. After that we used it and have had one ever since. We bought a trailer for it and that works great. Rather than hauling heavy stuff by hand we can put 8 times as much stuff in that trailer and get it to where we need or much closer to where we need. That trailer has been used way more than we thought it would. Very handy. John Deere 10P trailer.

94 on Wednesday, topped out at 58 today with a nonstop dribble of rain all day, 1/4″ It’s going to be a crummy weekend with more rain. 2 families of kids are coming down and we haven’t a clue how to entertain them all if it rains for 2 days.

Take them to the beach!!! Kids will love it. Ha ha!!!

We have our oldest son and his wife considering moving to TN. In fact almost her whole family is considering it. We have 6 kids but only he has grandkids and my wife may have to go to TN to be near them. We have a pretty sweet set up here and it is irreplaceable really. Woods, creek, end of a cul de sac. Horse trails all over. It really is a unique property and we’ll never get anything like it I don’t think. So I’m not sold on moving. I guess we’ll see what happens.

There are a ton of great areas in TN that are close to cities but offer what you seek. You’d have lots of new travel destinations. We had been thinking about the Charleston SC area and were considering renting a small apartment for a year to see if we would like it. In the end, my daughter had number 4 and wifey wanted to help out and then daughter had number 5. She finally came to the conclusion South Carolina would be too far.

Yep, if our kid moves his family to TN, then my wife does not want to be far from them. So I would think we are going. This is just a unique property with great assets. It will be tough to leave that.

Yesterday I finally set the valve lash on the mower. I had to adjust just one valve. The other three were right on. So now that is done. I also built manifolds to distribute water to three grow beds through soaker hoses. And they work great. So overall a successful weekend.

I seem to recall you mentioning a Les Paul. I don’t know if the link will work, but here goes.

    https://nextdoor.com/for_sale_and_free/9ab7d7fa-2a92-4fbf-881b-c97277039da1/?s=free_email&txt=1&ct=NGU6jiFJSxw0RSKaMu8jkTV10EoFZFa-XOzSAg9tqLVzKZnEA848XY7QpSP9g0NN&ec=1OH2Yv9VNZTO0ARn7XfaWYfiDRMAQEPy3c5qrywznrQ%3D

There is also a Gibson SGJ for sale.

I haven’t had good luck with soaker hoses. Maybe I don’t have enough water pressure.

I tried to check out the Les Paul, it looked pretty but I can’t get past the login for nextdoor. How much do they want for it? And how much for the SG?

We have not had good luck with soaker hoses either which is why I made the manifold. We always hooked them up together in series. This time I made a manifold to essentially hook them up in parallel. The manifold holds the pressure so they all start with the same pressure and the water flows pretty good. Using 25 foot hoses. We have 6 grow beds and using two manifolds with 3 spigots each to cover the six. I’m pretty happy with it. My wife got these hoses off Amazon and they really put out.

Regarding the soaker hoses, these are the ones that have worked for us really well.

    You might take a look.
