Wind chill – I had enough of that in my 7 years in the Minneapolis area. We would watch the wind chill charts everyday.

yeah, I have to find something with more shear strength. Hoping Simpson ties will do the trick word.

I guess there is only one way to find out. The Simpson won’t fail, but the nails or screws holding it in place may pull out.

I just hope when I get back to that project it isn’t downpouring like that first day. It was really coming down, my leather gloves were dripping and saturated. Today is similar, supposed to have 1 inch or so of rain today. And that is all day long of a harder than average rain for around here word.

I enjoy working in the rain. Just need a cap to keep it from dripping into the face, It’s messy but nothing a hose can’t handle.

I surprised my wife with a trip to St Pete Beach Florida for our anniversary. She needed it more than me. Low 80’s and sunny. NICE !

Ah yes, FL. Very nice. It rains here all the time so being outside in the rain is not that big a deal. It was a real downpour that I was in. I put in simpson ties for the joists so I feel better about that word.

That’s to keep your whining ass shut. You want off this ranch, you got it. I’ll drive your ass to the train station myself.

I have to define rain here in Seattle area. When we say it is raining, it rains very lightly all day. Most people would call it a mist or drizzle. When I say it was a downpour, it was big drops that get you wet. Rain does not get you wet, downpour does. We don’t often experience rain like most places. We maybe get one lightning storm a year. And it really is nothing compared to other places.

By the way, I wasn’t in St Pete last weekend word.

Had a great time in St Pete. Low 80’s. The warmth felt great.

Our rain is exactly the opposite. We rarely get the misty stuff which we common calla fog. rain is rain, droplets of any size. Hard rain is when there an unusually high volume of droplets.

You rarely see people in Seattle with umbrellas. If you do, they aren’t from around here. The rain size is small. We are expecting 0.6 inch today and that will be an all day affair, not a 1-2 hour deal. It will rain here from noon to 2am.

Supposed to snow 8-10 inches in the ski pass today. Gonna be a mess. Its a wet snow, very slippery. Snow in MN is typically dry and compact and easy driving on. Much tougher in Seattle. One year the buses were sliding sideways down the hills. The mayor refused to salt the road, didn’t want to salinate Puget Sound. We have a lot of rivers that enter Puget Sound and I’m sure it is not as salty as the Pacific Ocean, but what the heck! He got fired the next election. That was a particularly bad year.

We rarely see dry snow here, always wet, and heavy to move. Salt, salt, salt the towns buy mounds of it. One year the northeast ran not of salt in mi January and we usually get most snow in February. The Gov had to step in with an allocation and distribution plan. He declared a road emergency and directed towns not to salt certain residential streets. Of course, there were few snows where residents couldn’t reach the main roads because of ice and the prohibition on salting. Residents throughout the state wanted his head under a snowplow. Many couldn’t get to work and lost pay.

In MN, at least in 1994-2001, they came with snowplows in neighborhoods and big roads and cleared them. Salt was a major feature of that but still, roads were cleared quickly word.

Hope you had a feasty Thanks giving with the family. We had 26 including the parents of the in laws. Tables all over the place. No.1 son fried a turkey and Virginia ham and one in-law made lasagna, meatballs, sausage and spaghetti. 26 and we still had a ton of leftovers.

They plow ever snow here too, but then leave a slick layer of compacted snow and ice. The salt makes quick work of the ice leaving a drivable road. When there’s no salt, it’s near impossible to drive on those roads. Add some slight inclines and there are spinouts everywhere.

We had the first youth wrestling tournament on Saturday. Walked away with 2 golds and 2 non-placers. The 2 that lost were in a 7-9 age group and lost their 2 bouts to experienced 9 year olds. He ended up losing both in OT on riding time , 3 secs and 5 secs. Those 2 kids ended up 1st and 2nd. It was unique tournament. 2 brackets of 4 in each weight class, The 4 wrestle 3 round robin bouts. The top 2 from each bracket move on 3-0 from bracket A wrestles 2-1 from Bracket B, same for 3-0 B and 2-1 A. Then the 2 winners wrestle for 1st and 2 losers for 3rd. Given the outcome he was right there with the gold and silver winners. Yeah, he was bummed out he didn’t medal. I had never seen a tournament set up like that, but it gave each kid a chance for the title bout since there were no seeds.

Glad it was a great weekend for you Ryou!!

I smoked our turkey and it was really really good. My MIL and a neighbor came to dinner with us so it was just 4 of us. Our son and his family came after. They were at his in-laws who live 1/4 mile down the road!! They are very close and are great.

I suppose our HS is back wrestling by now. I am surprised to hear about riding time in youth wrestling. Congrats to the winners and the non placers. It takes a lot to suffer through a tournament. My dad always said it was easier to win. The losers bracket can add a few matches if you get to that final. I only took his advice a few times ha ha!!

The only thing I can say is we had a great Thanksgiving, still enjoying it, and Alabama beat those Auburn losers!!!

Smoking a turkey is my favorite way to cook it. It just takes a really long time. If haven’t tried a fried Virginia ham you should. It’s not greasy at all if you the tempo high enough.

They do a 30-30-30 for tournament overtime, but no OT in dual meets, ties if even at the end.
Age 4-7 its 1-1-1, 8 and up 1-2-2 for bouts. The wrestling leagues are age 8 and up but there are tournaments for age 4-7 every weekend along with 8 and up. Those are long days since it’s not unusual to have 16 kids in a weight class. Most tournaments now have round robin brackets where every kids at least 2 bouts if not 3. Then better kids square off in brackets or another round robin for the championships. It’s a looong day for most tournament because of the number of prelim bouts. They’ll start at 8 and the title bouts usually won’t start until 4 or 5 in the afternoon. Some tournaments will have 15 to 18 weight classes sporead it 3-5 lbs apart.

What we do to smoke the turkey is put it in the smoker and turn it on. The smoker is very low tech. It has a pan that holds a bag of chips. And a water dish. That’s it. So we cook it until all the chips have smoked out. Then we pull it out and throw it in the oven where we can control the temperature and finish it in there. Works great!

I remember taking my kids to a few wrestling tourneys. It didn’t take for them word.
